WMA Pearl River Campgrounds


The Pearl River Wildlife Management Area, which encompasses the Honey Island Swamp, is 34,896 acres managed for wildlife, which includes a 250 square mile cypress-tupelo swamp. Adventurers, take note: Louisiana's Northshore is also home to the Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge, which comprises over 13,000 acres and is home to alligators, brown pelicans, and bald eagles.

Camping is available at Crawford Landing. The WMA Pearl River Campground is open year-round. There are 29 campsites. There is no water or electricity, but the campground has two well-maintained portable toilets. The location also has a free boat ramp.

Located near to the campground are hiking, hunting, fishing, and ATV/off-road opportunities. All require a Louisiana permit. There are Honey Island Swamp tours next door.

Attraction Advice

The campground is located immediately behind the Slidell Welcome Center. There is a gate between the campground and the center, open during the center business hours of 8:30 AM to 5 PM. The Welcome Center offers free hot coffee.
