Ramapo Valley County Reservation is Bergen County's largest park area and is located on the edge of the Highlands Region. The park has grown to over 4,000 acres. Visitors can hike the hills and valleys, enjoy the Ramapo River and several ponds, and admire the vibrant ecosystem.
The Reservation offers a diversity of hiking trails suited to a range of level-difficulty. One of the outstanding characteristics of the area is its diversity of landscapes including its waterfall. The yellow trail takes you to the waterfall and top of the mountain reservoir. The trail is mildly steep but only for a short duration.
Fall foliage attracts many people, but spring will offer a larger amount of water cascade from the falls. Maps and restrooms are available intermittently at the kiosk or park office. Ramapo can draw large crowds on nice weekends. The parking lot can fill up by noon on popular weekends, with no on-street parking allowed.
The park is open every day from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Admission is free.
