A full-scale replica of the fort built by James Harrod in 1774 is the centerpiece of Old Fort Harrod State Park in Harrodsburg, KY. The reconstructed fort contains several log structures representing various aspects of military frontier life, including a militia blockhouse, a family blockhouse, several cabins demonstrating pioneer life, a blab school, the minister's cabin, and the leader's cabin.
Cabins and blockhouses are furnished with handmade utensils, furniture, crude tools, and implements used by the pioneers. The Mansion Museum is an original structure dating to 1813 when it was Federalist Style, and then underwent additions to make it a Greek Revival. It houses an impressive collection of artifacts dating from the 15th or 16th century through the early 1900s, including one of the best collections of firearms, from early flintlocks to civil war-era muskets.
The park complex also features the George Rogers Clark Federal Monument, Lincoln Marriage Temple, and the oldest cemetery west of the Alleghenies. The Lincoln Marriage Temple is one of the stops along Kentucky's Lincoln Heritage Trail. Visitors can see the 'Big Ole Tree', the largest Osage Orange tree in the US.
The gift shop is a hidden jewel in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. It is located just inside the fort and offers a variety of Kentucky Proud products, Kentucky handcrafts, books, music, gift items, jewelry, pottery, souvenirs, children’s items, and many more unique items.
Trip AdvisorPark grounds are open to the public every day from 8 AM until dusk. The fort is open Wednesday to Sunday, March through November, Thursday to Saturday in December, and Thursday and Friday in January through February. It is opened by appointment only on other days.
