Wilderness Park is a 120-acre nature preserve located below Big Santa Anita Canyon. The entrance to the park is at the end of a neighborhood road within Los Angele County and makes a marked change to the day-to-day existence in a large city.
A recreation area has been developed on 8.5 acres and the balance of the preserve is left in its natural state. The park contains lots of trees, plants, birds, animals, and a small stream. Wilderness Park has a nature center with many animals on display and a pond to enjoy, but a vast number of animals are seen roaming the preserve. Visitors can see bears (rare), deer, two species of squirrels, and too many species of birds to list.
The nature center offers interpretive displays to the public and has special educational programs for schools, scouts, and other youth groups. In addition to the nature center, the park itself has a campground for tents, hiking trails, two waterfalls, picnic grounds, barbeques, Archery, Multi-Purpose Field, Nature Trails, and restrooms.
