East Matunuck State Beach

The heart of Rhode Island’s surf scene lies at its renowned point break, Matunuck, a natural formation that creates long, peeling waves ideal for both longboarding and shortboarding. The point's unique configuration allows for rides that can extend for hundreds of yards, providing ample opportunity for surfers to showcase their skills and carve graceful lines across the face of the wave. When conditions align, Matunuck's point break can rival some of the best surf spots on the East Coast, attracting experienced surfers seeking a challenging and rewarding experience.

Beyond the point break, Matunuck's coastline offers a variety of other surf spots to explore. The beaches to the east and west of the point provide more forgiving waves suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers. The rocky outcroppings and reefs scattered along the shore create additional breaks that can offer thrilling rides when the swell is right. The ever-changing tides and currents add an element of unpredictability to the surf, keeping even seasoned locals on their toes.

Matunuck's appeal extends beyond its waves. The village itself exudes a laid-back, beach town vibe that invites visitors to relax and soak up the coastal atmosphere. The iconic Ocean Mist, a beachfront bar and music venue, has become a beloved institution for surfers and locals alike, offering live music, cold drinks, and stunning ocean views. The nearby Matunuck Oyster Bar, renowned for its fresh seafood and lively atmosphere, is a must-visit for those seeking a taste of Rhode Island's culinary scene.

The natural beauty surrounding Matunuck further enhances the surfing experience. The rugged coastline, dotted with rocky cliffs and sandy beaches, provides a picturesque backdrop for wave riders.
