Glasgow is the county seat of Barren County and the home of Mammoth Cave National Park. Long known as the location of Mammoth Cave National Park, the area is perfect for spelunkers, but Barren County is a great place to experience relaxation, fun, arts & culture, history, above-ground and underground adventures, water recreation, events, and more.
Barren County was founded in 1798 and shortly after in 1799, Glasgow was named the county seat. History says that a gentleman by the name of John Matthews, who was born in Glasgow, Scotland, was an early trustee of the town and is given credit for naming the town after his place of birth. It is now a city well-known for its annual Scottish Highland Games.
Visitors can explore numerous caves, including the famous Mammoth Cave National Park, fish and swim Barren River Lake, amble the Plaza, and watch the Highland Games (you gotta have a kilt to compete!).
