The Beautiful White River Valley
The Town of Meeker is located along the famed White River near the base of the iconic Flat Tops Wilderness in Northwestern Colorado’s Rio Blanco County, an area made up of 75% managed by the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the State of Colorado. The massive amount of public land offers many opportunities to visitors and features the Flat Tops Wilderness, White River National Forest, and Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway.
Visitors can find events every season in Meeker. The annual Sled Dog Races are held around the first weekend in March. Watch the dogs as they head off to the races, then meet the mushers and their dogs. Twenty horse trainers from across the west come together to compete for prize money and scholarships after just 120 days of training a Wild American Mustang as part of the Meeker Mustang Makeover. The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials offers five days of sheepdog herding competition intertwining sheepdog trials, education, culture, and its history.
Visitors can explore world-class hiking, biking, and motorized recreation trails. Limitless fishing and water activities can be found on one of the many streams, lakes, reservoirs, and the White River. Additional recreation offerings include hunting, camping, snowmobiling, and more. Meeker, Colorado is a year-round destination for tourism, including an extensive line-up of events and culture.
