Lisbon is located in the lovely Sheyenne River Valley. Lisbon is the county seat of Ransom County and was founded in 1880 on the Sheyenne River, which became a source of power for three flour mills. The community features an active downtown, great outdoor opportunities, and many other amenities. Main Street in Lisbon is the center of the community, from the historic Scenic movie theater to the city offices, Main Street is vibrant and busy.

In a state known for its flat horizons, a dip into the tree-speckled Sheyenne Valley with its snaking river and winding roadway is a welcome variation. Discover Native American, Viking, and pioneer lore. Explore 27 interpretive sites that include historic sites, trails, bridges, antiques, birds, and starry nights. Quaint towns and farmsteads lend charm to the journey. And a stay in Lisbon is the perfect starting or ending point.

Fort Ransom State Park, nestled in the picturesque and heavily-wooded Sheyenne River Valley, officially opened in July 1979. Taking its name from an 1860s military fort, Fort Ransom State Park is located in the midst of the scenic and heavily wooded Sheyenne River Valley. The river provides abundant opportunities for canoeing, fishing, and bird watching, while within the park can be found a short segment of the North Country National Scenic Trail. During the summer, horseback riding and camping are favorite activities, while cross-country skiing is a popular winter sport. A farmstead within the park is the setting for the annual Sodbuster Days celebration with demonstrations and exhibits of homesteading life.

Lisbon became one of the first North Dakota North Country Trail Association Trail Town in March 2021. The City of Lisbon offers many services for hikers including motel accommodations, camping with showers, restaurants, gas stations grocery, convenience, drug, and hardware stores.

Sandager Park is a beautiful park located along the Sheyenne River. Spend a night or more at its campgrounds, and stay active at its outdoor swimming pool, miniature golf, skate park, baseball complex, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and playground areas.
