Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce

Gateway to South Dakota's Finest Attractions

Local Attractions

Wall has become a well-equipped town to welcome visitors to a variety of attractions not expected from as small a community as this. Each year millions of visitors come to Wall to visit nearby attractions such as the Badlands National Park and the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, but Wall provides seamless services, such as dining and lodging, without losing that small-town, western charm. The lure of its western spirit makes it a great place to stop and stretch your legs or stay awhile to explore.

Wall is a progressive community of 800 year-round residents and is located just 50 miles east of Rapid City. Wall's major industries are agriculture and tourism and the community is bolstered by the major nearby South Dakota attractions, including the world-famous Wall Drug. Wall Drug boasts the largest private collection of Western Art, and many pieces hang on its walls.

Wall is also the closest town to the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands. Very little of the 595,000-plus acres of the entire Buffalo Gap National Grasslands are developed, allowing guests to witness the prairie how it was a millennia ago. Visitors to the area are encouraged to learn more about the grasslands at the National Grassland Visitor Center located in Wall.

Just minutes east of Wall is the Minuteman Missile National Historic site. The once-secret facilities are where Air Force personnel controlled and maintained ten nuclear missiles, part of a force of 150 missiles located in South Dakota. Discover the Cold War events that shaped our lives and still remain through a tour of the control center at Delta-01. At the Delta-09 silo, view a nuclear missile that once carried a 1.2 megaton warhead.

South of Wall, the Badlands Loop Scenic Byway takes visitors through a rugged landscape for breathtaking views of Badlands National Park. The Ben Reifel Visitor Center tells about geology and paleontology, as well as the past inhabitants including plants, wildlife, and humans. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, and watching the breathtaking sunsets are a few of the activities you can enjoy in Badlands National Park.
