Arrive as Strangers and Leave as Friends
Whether visitors come to Lexington for a weekend of fishing at Lake Murray, a University of South Carolina Gamecocks football game, or a getaway with friends, Lexington has everything here to make their stay uniquely Southern, all within a quick drive to where they want to go.
From summer boat rides on Lake Murray, rounds of golf at its beautiful golf courses to the Town of Lexington annual Snowball Festival in December, there’s something for everyone to enjoy no matter the season. But the best thing about Lexington is how people come together at festivals and events to celebrate. Live music at the Icehouse Amphitheater, oyster roasts, Blowfish Baseball, regattas, and more always draw a crowd.
When not at work, Lexington residents are out playing, too. And in the tradition of southern hospitality, this is a place that looks like a city but feels like a town. So take some time to eat, stay and play in the place so many of the few call home. This is the place where visitors arrive as strangers and leave as friends.
In 1735, the colonial government of King George II established eleven townships in backcountry South Carolina, to encourage settlement, and to provide a buffer between Native American tribes to the West and colonial plantations in the coastal low country.
